Rockleigh has whats called a "non-operational" school district meaning there are no public schools with the community limits. Students from this borough attend Northvale schools as part of a sending/receiving relationship. Thomas Jefferson School educated about 220 children grades K through 4 and Nathan Hale Middle School serves the 350+ students in grades 5 through 8.

Route 501passes through Rockleigh and continues north to New York Route 340.
Rockleigh, prior to 1660, was part of the vast wilderness known as the "Kings Woods". The territory had been inhabited by the Leni-Lenape tribe. The Dutch first arrived and the countryside soon became dotted with homesteads, mills, farms, and inns. Over 200 years have passed since the harings & snedens settled in the area.
